Ironia Earth Day Program - Celebrate the Tradition!
Support the Ironia School Community as we expand our efforts and reinforce to our children
the benefits of “going green.”  Help us to reduce, reuse and recycle!  Throughout the year the
PTA sponsors several green initiatives.  The environmentally friendly service learning projects
provide the opportunity to teach our children and protect our planet.  Won’t you join us?
If you have an idea for a new green project or if you would like to volunteer to help with an
existing program, please contact the PTA: irpta@rtnj.org

Cell Phone, iPod, Digital Camera Recycling Program
The Ironia 5th Grade Class (class of 2011!) will be collecting used hand held electronic
devices (cell phones, iPods, digital cameras, etc) throughout the year.  All items will be
recycled and save space in our landfills!  The proceeds from the program will benefit
the 5th grade class gift to Ironia.  A collection container may be found on the stage in
the cafeteria.  Please drop all items in the container.  We will be happy to recycle them for
you!  Thank you for supporting the class of 2011!  If you have any questions, please contact
Gina Luciano: lucianofamily@optonline.net

Plastic Caps Recycling
Through the combined efforts of Mrs. Friedland (2nd grade teacher), Mrs. Soldivieri (5th
grade teacher) and the Ironia PTA, we will continue to collect plastic caps and soda tabs.
All items will be sorted and recycled/donated.  Caps and tabs will be counted in our Box
Box Tops Classroom Collection Contest.  Be sure to watch for details!
*Please remember to clean all caps or they will not be accepted and counted in the contest.

Inkjet Recycling Program
Ironia School is proud to support an ink and toner cartridge recycling program.  Families are
invited to bring all empty cartridges to Ironia and place them in the labeled corrugated recycling
box located at the Ironia main entrance.  Empty cartridges will be reused or recycled through
the sustainability efforts of National Cartridge Supply (NCS).  NCS is the only company that is
EPA compliant.  The program will result in landfill waste reduction, CO2 emissions reductions
and energy reductions.  Through the EPA alliance, Ironia will be a Certified Recycler.  Ironia
will receive quarterly reports and earn rebates.  If you have any questions, please contact
Michele Renna: mrenna@ncscartridge.com

Commit to Zero - School Program
Watch for details as the PTA expands its partnership with NCS/USRenewable to bring the
Commit to Zero School Fundraising Program.  As participants in this program, all PTA members
are rewarded with membership to the NCS buying club which offers up to 50% discounts on new
and renewed imaging supplies.  As a result, we can help to protect our planet for future generations
as we meet our needs in an Earth-Friendly way.
The Commit to Zero program adds to both our green initiatives and our no-cost fundraisers.  Be
sure to check back for details!

"Gently Used" Clothing Drive
As we continue to support service learning projects, the Ironia PTA is proud to participate in a
used clothing drive in conjunction with A&E Clothing of Carteret, NJ.  All donated items will
benefit men, women and children in need.  The PTA will earn money for each pound of items
that are donated.  Clothing may be dropped off at Ironia and will picked up and delivered to
A&E Clothing.
UPDATE: The Ironia PTA collected and donated 392 bags of clothing, toys, and other items!
A total of 4,957 pounds will benefit men, women and children in need.  The PTA
earned $743.55 for this wonderful triple-win service-learning project!!
1 - We're going green by donating/reusing what we have
2 - We're providing clothing, toys and household items for families in need
3 - We're reinforcing the Ironia Golden Rule:
Treat others the way you wish to be treated.
