October 1: Whole School Community Meeting:  9:15 am - 9:40 am
The October whole school community meeting will be held today at
9:15 am in the Ironia Gym.  Please join us as our fifth grade students
lead us!  Parents are invited to attend to see how our students begin each
day!  Remember to have your child wear green as we celebrate our
monthly Character Education theme of Responsibility.
October 1: Panther Cash Orders Due
Order forms and payment are due for Panther Cash orders.  Please click
the Panther Cash link from the PTA home page and see how easy it is to
earn money for Ironia!  A complete retailers list and order form are

October 1 & 2: Scholastic Book Fair (Book fair dates:  09/29/09 - 10/02/09)
The PTA fall Scholastic book fair will be held all week in the Ironia library.
Please be sure to check the schedule to see when your child's class will be
attending.  Your child may purchase books for himself, family members or
select a book from his teacher's classroom library wish list.  Book titles
are available for all ages.  Parents are welcome to attend the book fair
with their children.  Siblings are also welcome!  Book fair hours:
Thursday, October 1:  9:00 am - 3:30 pm
Friday, October 2:  9:00 am - 12:00 pm

October 2: Ironia Reading Train:  All Aboard!
To encourage and support the love of reading in our children, Ironia students
will participate in the Ironia Reading Train silent reading program each
Friday from 9:10 am - 9:30 am.  All students are asked to bring one or two
books and sit with their class in the hallway and read silently.  Ironia staff
members will model appropriate silent reading etiquette.  Welcome aboard!
October 5-9: Box Tops Contest
The Ironia PTA will sponsor a fall Box Tops Contest from Monday,
October 5 - Friday, October 9.  Please be sure to send all Box Tops, Acme
receipts, Tyson labels, Campbell's Soup labels and milk caps.  All items will
be collected in each homeroom.  Each item is worth one point and the
homeroom with the most total points will receive a "special treat" for
each student!  If you have any questions or comments, please contact

**Note that only plastic caps will be counted in the contest.  All caps
All caps must be washed or they will not be counted in the contest!!
October 7: K-Kids Meeting:  8:00 am
K-Kids will have its first meeting of the year today at 8:00 am in room 128.  All
interested 4th and 5th grade students should attend.  If you have any questions,

October 7: Fall Plant Sale
Orders for the Ironia Fall plant sale are due today!  Each year this great service
offered to our families, helps to decorate the homes of Ironia during the fall 
season!  You may pre-purchase mums in a variety of colors:  3 - $15.
Plants will be available for pick-up on Friday, October 9.  If you have any

October 12: Randolph Township Schools closed for Columbus Day
October 14: Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest Deadline
Join the Ironia staff in promoting Red Ribbon week by encouraging students to
participate in the annual poster contest!  Students may work together or with
their families.  Poster's should reflect age appropriate work.  Please follow
the grade level themes listed below.  BE CREATIVE!  Be sure to include
student name, grade level and homeroom teacher on the back of the poster.
You may use any color paper but all posters should be 12" x 18" only.
Please note that smaller or larger paper will not be considered.  If you have

October 16: Innisbrook Fundraiser:  Order Deadline
The PTA annual Innisbrook Gift Wrap Sale/fundraiser will be held from
September 14 - October 16.  Orders must be place by October 16 to ensure
that items arrive by Thanksgiving.  In keeping with our theme of going green,
Innisbrook has made ordering paperless with their EZ-online order entry
system AND also provides the option to order via a 1-800 number.  Each
Ironia family will receive one packet that may be used to make your
purchases and shared with family and friends.  The PTA will earn 50%
of all sales!  The gift wrap sale is our second largest fundraiser.  Last year,
we earned $10,000+ thanks to your generosity.  We are proud that every
penny earned is invested in our students!  If you have any questions,

October 16: Market Day Orders Due (online orders due October 17)
The PTA is proud to offer the Market Day program.  The Shop-At-Home
grocery program returned to Ironia last March after five years.  Market
Day offers a wide selection of over 180 high quality foods at competitive
prices.  Thanks to Program Coordinator Gina Luciano, the PTA earned
$800+ in four months!  For a complete list of products, meal selections,
recipes, and nutritional information or to place your order, please visit the

All completed order forms must be submitted to the PTA by today or you
may place your order online.  Be sure to designate Ironia Elementary as

October 19 - 23: Ironia Celebrates Red Ribbon Week!
Join the Ironia family as we celebrate Red Ribbon Week 2009!  The
purpose of the Red Ribbon campaign is to present a unified and visible
commitment toward the creation of a Drug Free America.  Be sure to
enter the poster contest and participate in our week long activities!
Monday, 10/19:  "Kick-Off" Red Ribbon week by wearing something red!
Students will all receive red ribbons.
Tuesday, 10/20:  Let's "Show Good Character by Being Drug-Free" - students will
receive Character Education Pencils/bookmarks
Wednesday, 10/21:  "Living drug free is no sweat" so wear sweat pants today!
Thursday, 10/22:  "We have better things to do than drugs."
Wear clothing that shows something that you do that is better then doing drugs.
Perfection on Wheels Assembly:  Grades 3 - 5
Friday, 10/23:  "Drug free--You can say no to drugs!"  Let's bring a canned food item
that will be donated to the Randolph Food Pantry.  Randolph students can
make a difference.

Please join us at 9:15 am in the Ironia Library for our monthly meeting.
All are encouraged to attend!  Children are always welcome!  If you have

October 23: Inside Ironia - deadline for submission
October 23: Market Day pick-up (Ironia Gym):  3:45 pm - 4:45 pm
Market Day orders will be available for pick-up beginning at 3:45 pm in
the Ironia Gym.  Please remember to bring your payment.  Note that cash
or checks (made payable to Market Day) will be accepted.  Credit cards
may be used for online orders only.  All orders must be picked up by
4:45 pm.  The PTA is not responsible for any order left after 4:45 pm.

October 29: Parent Network Committee (PNC) Seminar
The Randolph Township Elementary School PTAs Parents Network 
Committee will once again be offering seminars to elementary school parents.
The seminars are a great source of information, support and guidance.  The
first program How to Tame the Homework Monster . . . will be presented 
by Dr. Tracey Severns.  The seminar will be held in the Fernbook Elementary
School cafeteria from 9:00 am - 10:30 am.

Parties:  2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Celebrate the spirit of Halloween at the Ironia Elementary School parade!
Join us on the parade route as we watch all of our ghosts, goblins, witches
and more!  Additional information will be sent home from the grade level 
teachers and room parents.
